Kazandžija craft
is part of the guild to which tinsmiths belong. Some make objects from copper, and others cover them with clay. Since copper objects, especially dishes, were not only plated but also decorated with ornaments and engravings, this gave an artistic dimension to these products. The work of decorating was mainly done by women, and it is called savaćenje. It is a type of decoration, typical of Sarajevo, which has survived to this day. The craft came to Bosnia and Herzegovina with the arrival of the Ottomans, and from the 16th century, in the same place where it is today, the Kazandžijska bazaar was located.Although Kazandžija shops could also be seen on Vratnik, the center of this activity is around Oprkanj Street in Baščaršija. This Čaršija met the needs for coppersmith products throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. They could boast of the most numerous utensils for work and more than seventy different products, among which I single out: kitchenware and serving ware of various types and sizes; dishes in which water was brought and kept, jugs, tubs, and ice cubes; accessories for complete serving of the coffee table, tubs, coffee cups, envelopes; various sacred objects – products for lighting, for barbershops, for spas…

If you are a fan of real homemade food
If you are a fan of real homemade food full of aromas and flavors that will take your palate to the ‘seventh heaven’, then traditional Bosnian cuisine is the perfect match for you! If we also remember that a few years ago the inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina were in the eighth place of the friendliest nations in the world according to a report by the World Economic Forum, maybe next weekend you will decide to pack your suitcase and head to the neighborhood to enjoy good company and an abundance of people. and drinks that can be found on the gastronomic offer there. So that the choice wouldn’t give you too much of a headache, we decided to single out a few favorites that are worth going to Bosnia and Herzegovina for.

ĆEVAPI
Those little rolls made of minced meat grilled on the grill date back to the Ottoman Empire, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina for years they have had the status of a national specialty without which every visit to Sarajevo is unthinkable.

BUREK/PIE
Along with traditional ćevapi, one of the most popular dishes in the neighboring country is burek or pita, and they differ only in the filling. If you order a ‘burek’ in Bosnia, you will receive a thinly stretched dough filled with a mixture of minced or chopped meat, onions, and spices, which is rolled into rows, small balls, or circles, and then baked in a pan.

BEY’S SOUP
If you want to eat something “on a spoon” that will warm you up and at the same time refresh you, there is the magnificent Beg’s soup.

SARMA/JAPRAK
The season of sarma has begun, a favorite winter dish of many Croats, which our neighbors also like to make. The word sarma itself comes from a Turkish word that means ‘wrapped’, and it is a mixture of minced meat, rice, and spices that are wrapped in a sauerkraut leaf. If you wrap the same shift in a vine leaf, you will get japrak instead of sarma.

TUFAHIJE
And for the end, we left you a dessert. Although baklava is certainly the most popular dessert in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, our choice this time fell on tufahije. Apple lovers will come to their senses if you mention a delicious dessert made of boiled and then baked apples, crushed walnuts, and sugar, which are served with the addition of sweet whipped cream or whipped cream. Tufahija originally comes from Persia and is a favorite dessert of Bosnian cuisine that you must try. We’re sure you won’t regret it!
