Travnik is a city in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Central Bosnia, 90 km northwest of Sarajevo, and is also the capital of Central Bosnia County. It is known for being the capital of Bosnian kings in the Middle Ages, and later of Ottoman viziers from 1686 to 1850, and a large part of its cultural heritage dates from that period.
Travnik is located very close to the geographical center of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Lašva River flows through the city, from west to east, before its confluence with the Bosna River. The town of Travnik is located in the large Lašvan Valley, which connects the Bosna River Valley in the east with the Vrbas River Valley in the west.
Travnik lies at an altitude of 514 meters. Its most prominent geographical features are the mountains Vilenica and Vlašić, named after the Vlachs. Vlašić is one of the highest mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an altitude of 1,943 meters.
Jajce, is a town in central Bosnia, at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas. It is located in a rift basin, at the intersection of road routes that lead through the Vrbasa valley (Banja Luka–Bugojno) and from Bihać to Bugojno. In the center of the town of Pliva, collapsing over travertine deposits, it forms a 22 m high waterfall; 5 km upstream from Jajce on Pliva, there are two lakes (Veliko and Malo Plivsko jezero/lake) whose water is used for the production of electricity. Production of building stone (plivit), metal industry. Traces of the settlement have been preserved from the ancient era, among which the foundations of the temple with Mithra’s cult relief carved into the rock stand out. In the war in BiH, Serbian forces attacked Jajce in March 1992. HVO units withdrew at the end of October 1992 (with about 30,000 refugees). During the attack and Serbian occupation, the city was significantly destroyed (most cultural monuments and religious buildings were destroyed). In September 1995, it was occupied by Croatian forces.
